Sunday Scaries: VP Contenders Will Say Anything to Spin Trump’s Disastrous Record

In response to Donald Trump’s VP contenders once again pushing lies and MAGA extremism, DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s VP contenders love to project his failures and dangerous pledges to be a dictator on ‘day one’ onto President Biden because they know putting loyalty to Trump and his extreme agenda over the truth is the only way to stand out in his MAGA veepstakes. The American people aren’t buying the unhinged lies Trump’s potential running mates are selling, and will reject whichever one of them makes it out of this humiliating race to the bottom.”

Doug Burgum was called out for his lies claiming President Biden is a “dictator” all while defending Trump, who wants to be a dictator on “day one.”

Kaitlan Collins, CNN: “You’re calling the democratically elected president a ‘dictator?’”

Doug Burgum: He signed executive orders.

Collins: I don’t think anyone expects the Republican governor to agree with President Biden on everything. But it’s not a dictatorship.

Burgum: “I’m just trying to … make the point here.”

Collins: “Well, I counted. Trump signed 220 executive orders when he was in office. President Biden so far, has only signed 139 in the same time span. And on executive action on immigration, it was Speaker Mike Johnson who was calling on President Biden to take executive action, saying it wasn’t Congress’ responsibility, it was his.”

Kristi Noem repeatedly dodged questions on Trump’s plan to pardon January 6 insurrectionists, and claimed the country would be safer under Trump even as crime has fallen under President Biden.

The Hill: “‘What I have been very clear about is that we don’t want to see another January 6th again. Nobody in this country wants to see another day like that again,’” [Noem] said.

“‘And I believe that Donald Trump, when he comes back to the White House and is in charge of this country, we’re going to have incredible opportunities to show that people in this country will be safer, that we’ll have law and order back in our streets,’ she added.”

Peter Alexander, NBC: “Well, in fact, violent crime in the country is down 50% since Joe Biden took office. But specifically, just to get back to this topic of the rioters, is Donald Trump wrong when he says he would pardon all of those who have been convicted in the January 6 attack?”

Noem: *Dodges several times*

Noem was also called out for lying in her book about her nonexistent meeting with Kim Jong Un.

Peter Alexander, NBC: “You wrote the book so why was that line ever in your book?”

Noem: “I’ve taken that line out … and I’m not going to discuss it.”

When asked about his support of a national abortion ban, Ben Carson defended cruel abortion bans across the country, made possible by Trump overturning Roe v. Wade

Ben Carson: “I’m happy that we have decided to put it back in the hands of the states … I’m very pleased with the way that it’s moving.”
