BREAKING: Trump Leads One of the Worst Years for Job Growth Since 2003
February 11, 2026

Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released its delayed jobs report for January, revealing that there were only 181,000 jobs added in all of 2025, marking the worst year for job growth since 2003, excluding recessions. Since Donald Trump entered office, the economy has added only 359,000 jobs total, averaging just 30,000 jobs per month.
In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s economy had the worst year for job growth since 2003, excluding recessions. And what does Donald Trump have to say? He says he’s ‘proud’ of his economy and that it’s ‘the greatest economy actually ever in history.’
“Trump’s economy isn’t for working Americans taking on record debt to pay for groceries, nor for people seeking better jobs, nor for young families struggling to buy their first homes. Trump’s legacy is building an economy that works for him and his friends — doling out favors to the well-connected and tax handouts to billionaires, while the American dream falls further and further out of reach for everyday Americans.
“Democrats are going to continue to fight for everyday Americans, working to lower costs, creating good-paying jobs, and calling out Trump and his corrupt administration for selling out working people and using the government as their slush fund.”
Voters’ outlook is bleak: The share of Americans who anticipate having high-quality lives in five years is at the lowest level since measurement began nearly two decades ago. More and more Americans are taking on debt just to stay afloat with basic necessities. As a result of Trump’s trade war, households paid an estimated $2,120 more due to Trump’s inflation — including $123 more on electricity costs and $150 more on groceries.
