In Major Win for Utah Voters, Federal Court Denies GOP’s Attempt to Block New Congressional Map

Today, a federal court in Utah denied a Republican attempt to block Utah’s new congressional map from going into effect ahead of the 2026 midterms. Republicans unsuccessfully tried to challenge a November state court decision, in which a judge threw out Republicans’ rigged congressional map that would have split up Salt Lake City and instead chose a map that keeps the city intact.

With today’s ruling, Utahns will now have a fair chance to elect representatives who truly reflect their values and priorities.

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

“Utah Republicans have spent seven years and millions of dollars trying to silence the voices of Utahns, but with today’s decision, they have failed. First, Utah Republicans passed maps that were so unfair that a judge threw them out. Then, they tried to pass unconstitutional legislation and even impeach a judge because their gerrymandering scheme was floundering. Now, the courts once again sided with Utah voters and denied Republicans’ attempts to block a fair map. While Donald Trump and his allies try to rig elections because they are scared of losing in November, Democrats will continue fighting to ensure Utahns have a fair map that keeps communities connected. Today’s decision is a victory for fair representation across Utah.”
