In Another Major Win for Florida Democrats, Andy Thomson Flips Boca Raton Mayoral Seat
March 13, 2026
Democrats have not held this seat for over 30 years
Today, Andy Thomson won his race to become the next mayor of Boca Raton, Florida, a seat that has not been held by a Democratic-aligned candidate for over 30 years. Democrats have won or overperformed in 90% of key elections since Trump was elected, including Eileen Higgins flipping the Miami mayoral seat late last year.
The DNC supported Thomson’s victory through Election Day, including an organizing blitz to recruit volunteers for GOTV efforts and turn out Boca Raton voters for Thomson. In total, the DNC organizing team contacted thousands of voters.
The DNC voter protection team, in partnership with the Florida Democratic Party, also supported the campaign’s ballot-cure efforts this week.
In response to Thomson’s victory, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“When you organize everywhere, you can win anywhere — including here in Florida. Mayor-elect Andy Thomson ran a strong campaign focused on the issues that matter most to Boca Raton voters, from the rising cost of groceries and gas to the health care crisis Donald Trump and his allies unleashed. This win is another warning sign to Florida Republicans that voters are fed up with their out-of-touch agenda that is making communities like Boca Raton unaffordable.”
