Trump Asks American Taxpayers to Pony Up $200 Billion for His Unpopular Iran War as Prices Skyrocket At Home
March 19, 2026

As Donald Trump continues to wage his unpopular war of choice with Iran with no end in sight, he is now asking American taxpayers to pony up more than $200 billion to fund it — $60 billion more than the most expensive year of the Iraq war.
Meanwhile, everyday Americans are drowning under soaring prices. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.88 nationwide — the largest 20-day spike since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. For the second time ever, the average price of diesel has reached $5 per gallon.
Just yesterday at a Federal Reserve meeting, Chair Jerome Powell sounded the alarm on rising prices, attributing them to Trump’s tariffs and his war with Iran. Powell warned that “higher energy prices will push up overall inflation” and said the Fed is deeply “concerned about the very, very low level of job creation,” noting, “over the past 6 months, if you adjust for overcounting, there is essentially zero net job creation in the private sector.”
In response, DNC Spokesperson Jaelin O’Halloran released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and his administration continue to sell out everyday Americans to wage their deadly and costly war of choice in Iran. Trump promised to lower costs on ‘Day One’ and put an end to endless wars, and now his ‘Department of War’ wants hundreds of billions of dollars from taxpayers as the economy tanks. Working families are already struggling to make ends meet as prices soar and jobs disappear — the last thing they want is to foot the bill for a reckless and unpopular war that puts American lives at risk.”
