NEW: Americans Become Even More Worried About Affording Health Care as Republicans Consider Slashing Health Care Funding for Trump’s War with Iran
March 31, 2026

Donald Trump and JD Vance have already spent $25 billion on their unpopular war of choice with Iran — which could have funded a year of health care for 3.1 million Americans — and they’re pushing for another $200 billion. Now, Republicans are considering slashing health care funding to help pay for Trump’s war with Iran, as Americans say health care is their top issue for the first time in several years.
Americans are even more anxious about affording health care than they are about inflation, with 61% saying they worry a “great deal” about its availability and cost.
Trump and Republicans already cut $1 TRILLION from Medicaid — the largest cut to health care in history. Then Trump and Republicans refused to extend the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits, forcing millions of Americans to pay an average of $780 more per year for health care premiums, an increase of 58%.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump, JD Vance, and Republicans have already slashed health care funding to pay for their massive tax cuts for their billionaire friends, sending health care costs soaring for Americans. Now, as working families grow even more worried about how to afford health care while prices at the pump and the grocery store continue to skyrocket, Republicans want to make even more cuts to health care to pay for their war of choice with Iran. After promising to put ‘America First,’ Trump and Vance are using taxpayers as a piggy bank to fund tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations and deadly and costly wars. Americans have had enough of this bullshit.”
