NEW POLLING: Trump’s Approval Rating Plummets to New Lows
April 29, 2026

As Donald Trump’s economy continues to tank and his deadly and costly war of choice with Iran pushes gas prices to their highest point in years, Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Trump’s performance and his handling of the issues that are most important to them. New polling released yesterday shows a dismal 34% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance, the lowest rating of his second term.
The same poll also found that nearly 70% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the cost of living, including more than 40% of Republicans. More than 60% of Americans say the economy is on the wrong track, up nearly 20 points from the beginning of Trump’s term. Meanwhile, another poll found that the share of Americans who strongly approve of Trump’s performance hit a record low in his second term.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s reckless economic agenda raised prices, hollowed out the job market, and forced working families, small businesses, and farmers to dip even further into their savings to make ends meet. Trump promised to ‘lower costs on Day One’ and campaigned as the ‘pro-peace’ ticket, but since taking office, Americans have gotten nothing but sky-high prices and another foreign war with no end in sight. It’s no wonder Trump’s approval numbers are at historic lows — his presidency only works for himself and his wealthy donors, while everyday Americans struggle to get by.”
