Donald Trump is Ripping Away Essential Programs That AANHPI Communities Rely On
May 29, 2026
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities are suffering because of Trump’s reckless economic agenda, with skyrocketing costs putting the American dream out of reach. Trump’s cruel policies and Big Ugly Bill will only make their lives worse by further ripping away access to programs that keep AANHPI communities afloat.
In response, DNC Vice Chair Shasti Conrad released the following statement:
“Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders are already struggling to make ends meet because of Trump’s cost of living crisis, and now his cruel agenda is ripping away essential programs they rely on to survive. From nutrition assistance to affordable healthcare, Trump and Republicans are cutting lifelines for millions of working families while they suffer under their failed economy. AANHPI voters have had enough of the pain Trump continues to inflict on our communities, and we’ll hold them accountable for their toxic agenda at the ballot box this November and for elections to come.”
Trump and Republicans’ repeated attacks on programs AANHPI communities rely on could have devastating effects on working families, seniors, and children.
- Trump’s Big Ugly Bill threatens millions of working families’ access to nutrition assistance programs like SNAP, including the almost 1 in 10 Asian Americans and 1 in 4 Native Hawaiians who rely on it to put food on the table.
- One in four AANHPI children could lose health insurance because of the Big Ugly Bill’s elimination of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
- Social Security keeps nearly a quarter of AANHPI seniors out of poverty — and Trump has hollowed out the program by making it impossible for seniors to access their benefits.
- 79% of registered AANHPI voters consider access to Social Security and Medicare extremely or very important when they vote.
