Trump Goes Into Hiding as His Approval Ratings Plummet
June 2, 2026

Nearly 60% of Americans, including over 40% of Trump voters, said Trump has not done enough to protect Americans from the economic impacts of his war with Iran
Donald Trump has gone into hiding amid historically low approval ratings. Trump has had no public events since his cabinet meeting nearly one week ago — just a day after his fourth medical examination in less than two years. As Trump’s economy continues to tank and his deadly and costly war with Iran reaches a stalemate, Trump’s approval ratings have plummeted to historic lows.
In a recent poll, a majority of Americans said the cost of living is the worst they can remember, and a plurality say their finances have only worsened since Trump took office — including nearly 1 in 5 Trump 2024 voters. In another poll, Trump’s overall approval rating hit a record low of 34%, the lowest recorded level for this survey across both of his terms.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump has been hiding from Americans for nearly a week as he fails to find a way out of Iran and his economy continues to worsen. Americans across the country are struggling to make ends meet, and they rightly blame Trump, Vance, and the entire administration. Trump’s presidency has been a massive betrayal of Americans, and he doesn’t even care enough to answer for the mess he’s created.”
Meanwhile, as Americans struggle to make ends meet and prices continue to climb, Trump admitted this week he doesn’t care about negotiations with Iran, saying, “I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less,” and even saying he doesn’t worry about oil prices. This isn’t the first time Trump has outright dismissed Americans’ concerns: Earlier this month, Trump said he doesn’t consider Americans’ financial situations “even a little bit.”
