BREAKING: Trump Refuses To Sign Bipartisan Housing Affordability Legislation Into Law

Donald Trump announced today that he is refusing to sign the bipartisan housing affordability legislation into law until Republicans pass his voter restriction bill. The housing bill would have supported new efforts to combat the zoning and permitting red tape that has slowed construction of new homes, and worked to prevent private equity investors from pricing Americans out of the housing market.

Earlier this year, Trump reportedly told House Speaker Mike Johnson that “no one gives a [bleep] about housing.”

Americans rank housing as one of their top economic priorities as mortgage rates remain high and families face a significant housing shortage. In a recent poll, 79% of voters said the cost of housing is an extremely or very important issue, and nearly 90% of voters believe buying a home is harder than ever before. A new report today also found that sales of new single-family homes fell in May, coming in significantly under economists’ expectations.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“Donald Trump is once again showing that he doesn’t give a shit about Americans. Trump had an opportunity to address one of America’s most important issues, but instead he’s choosing to prioritize his own ego-driven agenda that restricts Americans’ fundamental rights. While Americans struggle to put food on the table and a roof over their heads, Trump continues to turn a blind eye and put his own interests ahead of working families.”
