Donald Trump and Republicans have spiked healthcare costs, making healthcare unaffordable for millions of Americans, by slashing nearly $1 TRILLION from Medicaid — the largest cut to healthcare in history — to pay for tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations. Trump then refused to extend the popular enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, hiking premiums by an average of 58% and already forcing three million people to drop their coverage. Now, premiums are set to increase by double digits again next year, and 15 million people are projected to become uninsured.
Despite Trump touting his “most favored nation” deals, numerous drugmakers have raised prices on hundreds of prescription drugs and launched new drugs at an average price of $353,000 a year.
REMINDER: To add insult to injury, Trump and his administration want Americans to take out loans for medical bills they can’t pay after they made healthcare even more expensive for tens of millions of Americans.
More than half of Americans reported not being able to consistently afford healthcare in 2025, and more than a third of American families already have medical debt because of rising healthcare costs.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and Republicans have unleashed a healthcare crisis across the country, making healthcare unaffordable for millions of Americans, all to give massive tax cuts to the ultra-rich. Working families are drowning, facing nightmare scenarios of having to decide whether to pay for their insurance premiums, medical bills, and lifesaving medicine, or go without coverage just to make ends meet. Americans are tired of being left behind and getting screwed while Trump and his rich friends get richer.”
