Under Trump and Vance, the average American household has spent an additional $4,200 on goods and services
Senate Republicans yesterday blocked legislation from Democrats that would revoke and refund Donald Trump’s most recent tariffs, including a 12.5% universal tariff rate and a 50% tariff on Canadian goods, and curb Trump’s ability to continue waging his unhinged trade war.
A new report found that under Trump and JD Vance, the average American household has spent an additional $4,200 on goods and services. Trump’s tariffs alone cost consumers, households, and small businesses more than $230 billion in just one year. Notably, the Canadian retaliatory tariffs will cost states millions of dollars, including Maine, which gets 68.7% of its imports from Canada, as well as Alaska (40.7%), Minnesota (33.5%), Iowa (26.6%), and Ohio (18.7 %).
On top of that, last year was the worst year for job creation outside of a recession in more than 20 years, as the economy added less than 200,000 jobs throughout the entire year, and the manufacturing sector lost 108,000 jobs.

“Democrats are laser-focused on lowering costs and making life more affordable for everyday Americans. Meanwhile, instead of fighting for working families and small businesses, Republicans in Congress have been a rubber stamp on Donald Trump’s reckless agenda. Trump and Republicans don’t care about the pain everyday Americans are feeling; instead, they’re doubling down on Trump’s tariffs that have hiked prices even higher and left working families with no breathing room.”
