Today, JD Vance will travel to Michigan for the second time in less than two weeks — and less than a week after Donald Trump visited the state — to promote the failed Republican agenda that has made life more expensive for working families. Trump and Vance’s reckless tariffs and deadly and costly war with Iran have hiked prices on everything from gas to groceries, crushing everyday Americans. On top of that, their Big Ugly Bill ripped healthcare away from families and children while shuttering healthcare facilities across the country, including in Michigan.
In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“With one week to go until the midterm elections, JD Vance is desperately trying to defend the failed Republican agenda that has made life harder for everyday Americans. Donald Trump and Vance’s disastrous tariffs and war with Iran have caused costs to skyrocket and crushed the job market as working families’ paychecks get eaten up by high prices — yet Vance is doubling down. Voters are sick and tired of the Trump-Vance agenda and are ready to kick Republicans to the curb next week.”
REMINDER: Michigan families have spent an additional $4,700 on everyday essentials under Trump and Vance, including $310 for groceries and $1,081 on housing costs. The average price for a gallon of gas in Michigan is now $4.77 and the average price for a gallon of diesel is $6.80. The average Michigan family has shelled out an additional $940 on gas alone since Trump and Vance started their war with Iran. On top of that, experts estimate that at least 171,000 Michiganders will lose healthcare because of Trump and Republicans’ $1 trillion cut to Medicaid and their refusal to renew the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits.
