Trump: High Gas Prices As A Result of His War With Iran Are “A Very Small Price to Pay”

Eight months into his war with Iran, Trump is still “not in a hurry” to end the war

Eight months ago today, Donald Trump and JD Vance launched a deadly and costly war with Iran that has killed at least 21 U.S. service members and wounded at least 865 more. Trump originally claimed the war would last “four to five weeks.” Since then, Trump has consistently said that he was close to reaching a deal, and Vance has said he “wouldn’t call it a war” and declined to offer a timeline for when the war will end. Trump is expected to launch new strikes on Iran after the midterms.

With less than one week until the midterm elections, we’re revisiting Donald Trump’s own words to Americans over the last 21 months of his presidency. Here’s what Trump has said about his war with Iran:

Trump and Vance’s war has already cost consumers $265 BILLION — about $2,000 per household — including an additional $1,100 on fuel and energy costs alone. Americans have paid an additional $142 billion on gas and diesel since Trump and Vance started their war, and the average price of gas has been above $4 per gallon for 172 days this year — more than any year on record — as the U.S. is on track to have the most expensive Election Day gas and diesel prices in history. Farmers are also expected to spend an additional $2.4 billion on diesel alone during this year’s planting and harvest seasons compared to last year.

In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and JD Vance started a deadly and costly war with Iran, and eight months later, they still can’t find a way out as they put more service members in harm’s way and jack up prices back home. Working families are shouldering thousands in additional costs at the pump and the grocery store — and Trump doesn’t ‘give a damn.’ Trump and Vance promised no new endless foreign wars, but instead of giving Americans breathing room to afford gas and groceries, they are doubling down on a war no one wanted or asked for. In less than a week, voters will hold Trump and Republicans accountable for their betrayal.”

REMINDER: As working families stretch their budgets to afford gas and groceries, Trump continues to cash in on his war. A new report this week found that Trump’s personal stock holdings in oil and gas companies are now worth up to $81.6 million, compared to up to $46 million at the end of 2025. Trump also purchased up to $17.5 million in oil and gas stocks between March — after he started his war with Iran — and the end of August.
