Today, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the nationwide block on President Trump’s Muslim ban, concluding that the executive order was “rooted in religious animus and intended to bar Muslims from this country.” DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after the 4th Circuit’s decision:

“Discrimination is not a national security strategy. And once again, a federal court has struck down Donald Trump’s discriminatory Muslim ban. Despite this administration’s best efforts to disguise prejudice as patriotism, judge after judge is coming to the same conclusion: this ban is an unconstitutional attack on the Muslim community and our country’s foundation of religious freedom.

“But we don’t need the courts to tell us that this is un-American. This disgraceful ban doesn’t just violate our laws, it violates our ideals as a nation, it makes us less safe, and it threatens our place as the world’s beacon of freedom.”
