Tom Perez on Ford Moving Production to China
June 20, 2017
Following reports that Ford plans to move production of the Ford Focus to China, DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:
“Trump told American workers he would create more jobs and that auto manufacturers wouldn’t move overseas under his presidency. Instead, we’re seeing Ford expand production and creating jobs in China and not here in the United States.
“Trump says he wants to be a jobs president, but when the cameras go away, he is nowhere to be found. American workers need a real jobs plan that makes true investments in job growth and strengthens our economy as we saw over the eight years of the Obama presidency. Democrats will continue to stand by American workers and fight to create more good-paying jobs right here in America.”
Trump took credit for Ford cancelling their plans to build a plant in Mexico.
Trump: “Call Mr. Fields, the head of Ford…They’re all talking about building in the United States because of me.”
Trump: “We're losing our jobs to Mexico… And I have to tell you I've turned it around, already I've turned it around, you see that. Ford has been phenomenal. They canceled the plan.” [Interview With Bill O’Reilly, Fox, 2/5/17]
Trump: “Ford said last week that it will expand in Michigan and U.S. instead of building a BILLION dollar plant in Mexico. Thank you Ford & Fiat C!”
Trump: “Thank you to Ford for scrapping a new plant in Mexico and creating 700 new jobs in the U.S. This is just the beginning – Much more to follow”
Trump: “You look at what’s happening with Ford and with General Motors in Michigan and Ohio… That’s what I’m proud of” [Trump Joint Press Conference With President Santos Of Colombia, Washington DC, 5/18/17]
Trump: “They’re not leaving the country anyway…you saw what’s happening. Ford has announced massive expansions in the United States.”
