In response to Senate Republicans finally revealing their secretly drafted health care bill, DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement:
“Health care is a right, not a privilege. Yet Republicans are attempting to take away health care from millions of Americans, causing fear and anxiety about their families' future. If this bill passes, it would undermine protections for those with pre-existing conditions and reduce tax credits that would help those who need it most, leaving millions more with reduced coverage or higher costs. And on top of all that, the bill's consequences for women’s health are not only mean, they're dangerous. It cuts funding for essential health services for women and could leave pregnant women without the guarantee of maternity coverage.
“This bill is a cold and cruel betrayal of the American people. Democrats understand that health care is a right for every human being, and we will continue to fight any attempt to shortchange American families.”
