DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement in response to news that Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly questioned President Obama’s DACA program legal viability in a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus:

“The reports of this meeting are frightening. Ending the DACA program would force thousands of immigrants – who only know this country as their home—back into the shadows. It would tear families apart and make our communities less safe. DREAMers were brought here as children; they represent our country’s future and they’re already making invaluable contributions to our economy.

“Democrats believe our diversity is our greatest strength, and we will always fight for hardworking families and a smart, sensible immigration system – Republicans should join with us instead of playing political games with the lives of millions.”

Tom Perez responde ante nuevas amenazas al programa DACA

El Director Nacional del DNC, Tom Pérez, realizó las siguientes declaraciones en respuesta a las noticias de que el Secretario de Seguridad Nacional, John Kelly, cuestionó la viabilidad legal del programa DACA del presidente Obama en una reunión con el Caucus Hispano del Congreso:

“Lo que hemos escuchado de esta reunión es aterrador. Terminar con el programa DACA obligaría a que miles de inmigrantes que sólo conocen a este país como su hogar, vuelvan a las sombras. Algo así sólo destruiría a más familias y haría más inseguras a nuestras comunidades. Los jóvenes ‘soñadores’ fueron traídos aquí como niños y ellos representan el futuro de nuestro país. Hoy en día, cada uno de ellos ya está haciendo valiosas contribuciones a nuestra economía y sociedad.

“Los demócratas creemos que nuestra diversidad es nuestra mayor fortaleza. Seguiremos luchando por las familias trabajadoras y por un sistema de inmigración sensato. Los republicanos deberían unirse a nosotros en esta causa vez de jugar con la vida de millones de inmigrantes”.
