DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on the on the fifth Anniversary of the Enactment of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the Day of Action held in more than 30 cities today:

“Democrats are proud to stand with Americans across the country marching in support of immigrant families. When President Obama established DACA, it transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. Five years ago today, DACA gave these DREAMers a new opportunity to step out of the shadows, contribute to their communities, and strive for the American Dream.

“If President Trump bends to the wishes of extremists in his own Party and ends DACA, these immigrant families will be forced once again to live in fear of having their lives uprooted by deportation, shattering their communities and making us all less safe.

“Democrats believe that America is a compassionate nation, that our diversity is our strength, and that we should work across party lines to fix our broken immigration system. We will continue to support DREAMERS, immigrant communities, and the organizations working tirelessly on the frontline of the fight to preserve DACA.”
