In response to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s planned speech at the Washington Policy Center’s annual dinner in Bellevue, Washington, DNC spokesperson Vedant Patel released the following statement:

“No one should be fooled by Betsy DeVos. Her sole intent as Secretary of Education has been to weaken public education and promote school choice. She has chipped away at protections for transgender students, backed a budget that would cut funding for student loan borrowers, and has ended rules to crack down on campus sexual assault. Students, parents and teachers in Washington and across the country deserve a Secretary of Education and president who are committed to public education and protecting our students. While Republicans are determined to make life more difficult for Washingtonian families, Democrats will keep fighting for students and investments in their future by providing access to an affordable education and job training that expands opportunity for all Americans.”
