Today, the Democratic National Committee announced a new partnership with the North Carolina Democratic Party to support their efforts in electing Charlotte mayoral candidate Vi Lyles and Democrats up and down the ballot. Lyles is currently serving her second term on the Charlotte city council and worked for the city of Charlotte for nearly 30 years. If elected mayor, Lyles would be the first African-American woman to be mayor of Charlotte.

Just this past week, DNC Deputy Chair Keith Ellison and Vice Chair Michael Blake traveled to Charlotte to campaign with Lyles and Democrats who are working to expand economic opportunities for all, fighting to protect quality health care and increasing access to affordable housing.

“The new DNC is about electing Democrats from the school board to the Oval Office, so we are doubling-down on our commitment to elect Vi Lyles to be the first African-American woman mayor of Charlotte and electing Democrats up and down the ticket,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “We are committed to our new mission to elect Democratic candidates in every zip code. Vi would be an exceptional mayor who would put the interests of Charlotteans ahead of any political party and would build consensus between leaders on both sides of the aisles.
