DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement on Democrats’ historic victories in the Charlotte and Fayetteville mayoral races:

“Congratulations to Vi Lyles and Mitch Colvin on their historic victories in the Charlotte and Fayetteville mayoral races, respectively. Vi has spent more than four decades in public service, and is the first-ever African American woman to be elected mayor of Charlotte, while Mitch used his strong ties to the community to flip the Fayetteville mayoral seat from red to blue. The DNC was proud to partner with the North Carolina Democratic Party to support these races, and Vi’s and Mitch’s victories are proof that as long as we lead with our values and keep organizing, we can win from the school board to the Oval Office. We can’t wait to see what Mayors-elect Lyles and Colvin accomplish.”
