DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement in support of the millions expected to participate in today’s March for Our Lives demonstrations across the country to advocate for sensible gun laws:

“As Barack and Michelle Obama said recently, the students of Parkland have helped awaken the conscience of the nation. They’ve reminded us that thoughts and prayers are not enough. And they’ve inspired millions of Americans across the country to demand action to end the epidemic of gun violence.

“Today’s march should send a loud message to our leaders in Congress: The level of gun violence in America is not normal. It is not acceptable. And it is not inevitable.

“Democrats are proud to join today’s demonstrations, and we will continue to take on the gun lobby and fight for sensible gun laws so that one day we will no longer live in a nation that sees its children murdered and does nothing.”
