Trump & Pence Stand In Lockstep With The NRA
May 4, 2018
Less than three months ago, Trump told Parkland school shooting victims and their families that he would fight for them, stand up to the NRA, and support a comprehensive gun reform bill. Since then, it has been abundantly clear those were all lies. Instead, Trump and Pence have chosen to side with the NRA over the thousands of students and activists across the country pushing for common sense gun reforms – today they make it official as Trump and Pence once again take center stage at the NRA’s national convention.
TRUMP’S PROMISE:
After the Parkland school shooting, Trump held a White House meeting and said he would stand up to the NRA and called for comprehensive legislation.
ABC News: “After a deadly shooting in February at a high school in Parkland, Florida, Trump suggested he was open to new gun control measures. He held a meeting with senators, declaring that he would stand up to the gun lobby and calling for a ‘comprehensive’ bill.”
REALITY:
Trump told Republican senators they were “afraid of the NRA” for not pushing proposals to raise the semi-automatic rifle purchasing age, but later backed off after the NRA asserted their opposition.
CNN: “President Donald Trump asked Sen. Pat Toomey, a Pennsylvania Republican who's worked on a bill to strengthen background checks for gun purchases, whether he left a proposal to raise the gun purchasing age to 21 out of his measure because senators are ‘afraid of the NRA.’”
Associated Press: “Trump backs off call for raising minimum age to buy gun”
NBC News: “But it doesn't include a proposal the president floated March 1 to raise the minimum legal age to buy semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21, an idea the National Rifle Association vigorously opposes.”
Trump later abandoned his promise to work for gun control measures opposed by the NRA, and fully embraced their agenda.
New York Times: “President Trump on Monday abandoned his promise to work for gun control measures opposed by the National Rifle Association, bowing to the gun group and embracing its agenda of armed teachers and incremental improvements to the background check system.”
Trump has stood in lockstep with the NRA, repeatedly defending them and regurgitating their talking points.

Today Trump and Pence once again take center stage at the NRA’s national convention, making it official that they stand in lockstep with the NRA.
