DNC on the Passing of Herman “Denny” Farrell, Jr.

DNC Chair Tom Perez, DNC Vice Chairs Michael Blake and Grace Meng, and DNC Treasurer Bill Derrough released the following statement on the passing of New York Assemblyman Herman “Denny” Farrell, Jr. — a longtime member of the DNC and New York’s Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus, a former chairman of the New York Ways and Means Committee, and the first African-American Chair of the New York Democratic Committee:

“New Yorkers lost a remarkable public servant today, and the Democratic Party lost a legendary leader. For more than four decades, Denny Farrell fought tirelessly for working families in Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, and across the state. Compassionate and principled, honest and humble, Denny earned the respect of leaders in both parties and was never afraid to work across the aisle if it meant getting things done for his constituents. Whether it was protecting consumers, creating economic opportunities for working families, blazing a trail for people of color in elected office, or helping to better our party as a DNC member, Denny devoted his life to fighting for others.”

“Denny once said that he believed politics was meant to be ‘a tool for good.’ His career is proof of that fact. Everyone at the DNC celebrates his life and legacy by making sure we’re acting as a force for good in people’s lives every day.”
