DNC Associate Chair & Senior Counselor Jaime Harrison released the following statement following the South Carolina gubernatorial run off:  

“While Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rep. James Smith handily won his primary, Governor Henry McMaster couldn’t even secure the nomination for the Republican Party and struggled through his runoff. Even after Donald Trump and Mike Pence campaigned for McMaster, he could barely muster the support to survive his primary.

“With just a year in office, McMaster has lost the support of Republicans in his party and faces scandal after scandal, with even his consultants at the heart of an ongoing statehouse corruption probe. South Carolinians deserve a governor who has a vision and who wholeheartedly stands up for them and their jobs. Democrats are united behind James Smith, and we look forward to electing him the next governor of South Carolina this November.”
