DNC on Trump’s Short-Term Junk Insurance Plans
August 1, 2018
In response the Trump administration releasing new rules expanding short-term junk insurance plans, DNC spokesperson Daniel Wessel released the following statement:
“This is the latest Trump administration attack on Americans’ health care. By encouraging people to buy short-term junk plans, the administration could drive up premiums for ACA-compliant plans and make care less accessible to the people who need it. The administration’s junk plans wouldn’t be required to insure people with pre-existing conditions or cover benefits like prescription drugs and hospital care. As a result, people who enroll in these junk plans could find themselves locked out of care just when they need it the most.
“The vast majority of Americans believe the Affordable Care Act should be kept and improved upon, not repeatedly sabotaged as Trump and Republicans have done. Democrats will not stop fighting to reduce costs and increase access to care for all Americans.”
