DNC on Historic Wins for Democratic Women in August 7 Primaries

DNC women’s media director Elizabeth Renda released the following statement in response to the historic victories for Democratic women in primary races in Missouri, Kansas, Michigan and Washington:

“Last night, Democratic women continued to make history with a slew of victories from Michigan to Washington. It’s no wonder why we’re seeing these candidates soaring to victory in races across the country — strong, female Democratic leadership is exactly what the country is looking for in response to the Trump administration’s toxic, anti-woman and anti-middle-class family policies. Since Trump took office, we have seen women across the country become politically active like never before. From joining progressive moments as local organizers and activists to running for offices up and down the ticket, women are raising their voices to stand up to the Trump administration.

“Yesterday, multiple Democratic women made historic strides. In Michigan, Rashida Tlaib is positioned to become the first Muslim woman elected to Congress in our nation’s history. Alongside her in Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer will top the state’s first-ever all-female Democratic statewide ticket. In Kansas, Sharice Davids could be the first openly LGBTQ Native American woman in Congress. These women, and all of their fellow nominees, are a vibrant source of strength behind the growing momentum to elect Democrats this November. The DNC is proud to support these women as they continue to pave the way for generations of empowered female leaders, politicians, and activists in the future.”
