WASHINGTON – DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement in reaction to Trump’s abortion comments:
 
“Donald Trump's vileness and contempt for women knows no bounds. It will indeed be Donald Trump and Republican candidates who are punished come November. The Republican Party's presidential frontrunner has said out loud what the leaders of his party have been working toward since the right to a safe and legal abortion became settled law decades ago – the criminalization of women that denies them the right to make their own decisions about their health care. While Trump's hateful rhetoric is the most disgusting in the current field, the other two Republican candidates aren't much different when it comes to actual policy. All three Republicans would drag the country back to the days when women were forced to seek illegal procedures from unlicensed providers out of sheer desperation. Ted Cruz wouldn't even make exceptions in cases of rape and incest, and John Kasich is already punishing the women of Ohio by defunding Planned Parenthood and enacting policies that have closed down half of the abortion clinics in the state. This is yet another example of why we must elect a Democrat as the 45th President of the United States.”
