Washington – DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie Rollins issued the following statement after members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) delivered a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to address inequities in community policing.

“The CBC is demonstrating real leadership and advancing our national dialogue about law enforcement by calling for an end to unjust policing practices and urging federal prosecutors to exercise additional oversight in communities of color.  We cannot wait another day to address the tensions that exist between communities of color and police. Nor can we afford to wait even another moment when black lives are lost, and the people sworn to protect them are attacked.

“Hillary Clinton and Democrats have specific plans to address these issues, but I have yet to hear Donald Trump offer any real ideas or solutions to address structural racism, reform policing within Black communities, or eliminate the school-to-prison pipeline. Instead, he’s continually playing to outdated racist stereotypes, comparing “inner cities” to places like Afghanistan and declaring that Black communities are in the ‘worst shape’ ever. If Trump wants to earn Black votes, he needs to stop talking down to us, and start listening to the real voices in the African American community.”
