🚨TX Gov. Greg Abbott Calls Special Session to Gerrymander Districts Following Trump’s Budget Betrayal
July 9, 2025

Today, in the midst of disaster relief efforts in Kerr County, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that Republicans will attempt to gerrymander Texas maps even further in the upcoming Texas special legislative session in an attempt to save their majority from collapse following the passage of the GOP’s billionaire budget bill.
In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:
“Governor Abbott’s full attention should be focused on flood rescue and recovery efforts. Instead, he’s using this tragic moment to plot a gerrymandering scheme while families are still reeling from a devastating disaster. Republicans have already gone all-in on taking away health care, taking away food, and raising costs on families. Now, they want to disenfranchise Texas voters during a dire emergency. This is despicable and needs to be called out.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott called a special legislative session that includes redrawing state Congressional maps after Republicans’ passed a disastrous, historically unpopular budget bill.
Jeremy Wallace, Houston Chronicle: “BREAKING: Gov. Greg Abbott has just released an agenda for a special session starting July 21. It includes redrawing the Texas Congressional Districts ahead of the 2026 midterms to help the Republicans eek out more seats in case GOP lose seats in other states.”
