🚨DeSantis’s First Policy Proposal: A “Federal Role” on Banning Abortion

Fresh off his catastrophic failure of a campaign launch, Ron DeSantis has officially announced one of his first new policy proposals: a “federal role” in banning abortion nationwide. Meanwhile in Florida, women are already suffering under the extreme ban he signed that is forcing them to either flee the state or carry a medically risky pregnancy.

Less than an hour after announcing his campaign, Ron DeSantis is opening the door to banning abortion nationwide.

DeSantis: “Dobbs returned the issue to the elected representatives as a people. And so I think that there’s, there’s role for both the federal and the state.”

DeSantis signed an extreme abortion ban last month that would rip away women’s right to make their own health care decisions before many even know they’re pregnant.

Tampa Bay Times: “Late Thursday night, in a private ceremony in his office, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill to ban most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. … His office announced the signing in a highly unusual news release sent out after 11 p.m., then updated his schedule to say the ceremony happened at 10:45 p.m.”

DeSantis has shamelessly spent the last month repeatedly bragging about signing this latest cruel abortion ban.

DeSantis: “Of course, just a short few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to sign the heartbeat bill, which is the strongest pro-life bill Florida’s seen in its modern history. We got it done. And let’s not, and let’s be very clear on this, that when we are acting to protect an unborn child that has a detectable heartbeat, that is humane, that is not harsh.”

DeSantis: “That’s a landmark piece of legislation for this state and I was happy to be able to sign that provision into law in April, but we also understand that there’s much more to do.”

DeSantis: “‘I signed the bill, I was proud to do it.”

DeSantis: “Well, our protections for life are protections for unborn child when there’s a fetal heartbeat. And then there’s exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. And that was something that we were very proud to do. It’s going to save a lot of lives in Florida. And it was the right thing to do.”

As DeSantis continues to tout his most recent abortion ban, women in Florida are suffering under the ban he signed into law last year, which has NO EXCEPTIONS for rape or incest.

Orlando Weekly: “Middle school-aged incest victim was turned away from Florida abortion clinics under 15-week ban”

Washington Post: “Two friends were denied care after Florida banned abortion. One almost died.”

CNN: “Florida law allows abortions after 15 weeks if two doctors confirm the diagnosis of a fatal fetal abnormality in writing, but doctors in Florida and states with similar laws have been hesitant to terminate such pregnancies for fear someone will question whether the abnormality was truly fatal. The penalties for violating the law are severe: Doctors can go to prison and face heavy fines and legal fees.”
