2024 Republicans Go SILENT on Extreme Abortion Pill Ruling
April 10, 2023
Days have passed since a federal judge’s ruling to move to block access to the abortion pill mifepristone, yet many 2024 Republicans — including Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Nikki Haley, and Tim Scott — have been completely silent on the latest salvo in the GOP’s relentless campaign to completely ban abortion. Nevertheless, these MAGA Republicans have already shown Americans how they’ll stop at nothing to out-MAGA each other, pushing extreme abortion bans and ripping away women’s right to choose.
Despite abortion bans becoming the definitive litmus test of the Republican primary, many 2024 Republicans have yet to comment on anti-choice extremists’ latest attempts to rip away a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.
Wall Street Journal: “Representatives for former President Donald Trump, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a presumed presidential aspirant who is considering a state bill that would ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, didn’t respond to requests for comment on Friday’s ruling.”
Though they remain silent, we already know MAGA Republicans will never stop pushing their dangerous anti-choice agenda until their ultimate goal is reality: banning abortion nationwide.
Donald Trump: “Nobody has ever done more for right to life than Donald Trump. I put three Supreme Court justices who all voted, and they got something that they’ve been fighting for for 64 years.”’
WFLA: “Gov. Ron DeSantis said while speaking at Tallahassee event to announce the next year’s budget that he would sign a 6-week abortion ban … into law for Florida.”
The Independent: “A handful of GOP lawmakers were guests of honour at an event hosted by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, an anti-abortion nonprofit organisation named after the famous (and staunchly religious) women’s rights activist. Among those who attended were both of South Carolina’s US senators, Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham.”
Newsweek: “Haley described herself as ‘very pro-life’ and has spent most of her political career fighting for anti-abortion legislation, including signing a law as South Carolina governor in 2016 banning the procedure in most circumstances after 19 weeks of pregnancy unless the mother’s life is at risk.”
DC News Now: “Gov. Glenn Youngkin said he was ‘frustrated’ with state Democrats after a swift rejection Thursday of his proposed 15-week ban on abortion.”
Associated Press: “[Gov. Kristi Noem] and South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley released a letter to South Dakota pharmacists saying they are ‘subject to felony prosecution’ if they procure or dispense abortion-inducing drugs. The state bans all abortions except to save the life of the pregnant person.”
Mike Pompeo: “While we would like to see abortion illegal nationwide, that likely won’t happen in the near term. Instead, we should take a two-pronged approach: 1) restrict abortion as much as possible in each state, and 2) work to create a society that makes abortion obsolete.”
