2024 Republicans TRIPLE DOWN on Banning Abortion Nationwide

As more MAGA Republicans launch their 2024 bids, members of the GOP field are shamelessly leaning into their anti-abortion extremism. Just within the past 24 hours, Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, and Tim Scott have all tripled down on their push to rip away women’s ability to make their own health care decisions across the country.

Trump bragged AGAIN about his role in helping overturn Roe v. Wade and paving the way for the possibility of a nationwide abortion ban — touting how extreme bans across the country wouldn’t be possible without his presidency.

Trump, last night: “I was able to knock out Roe v. Wade and give pro-life the right to negotiate and the power … whether it’s five weeks, six weeks, 12 weeks, they’ll be able to negotiate something that will be– will get done.

Trump, last night: “I got rid of Roe v. Wade.

Trump: “After 50 years of failure, with nobody coming even close, I was able to kill Roe v. Wade, much to the ‘shock’ of everyone … Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to. Without me the pro Life movement would have just kept losing. Thank you President TRUMP!!!”

Trump: “We’ll pick something that’s going to be very, very good for pro-life … I’m going to be in there pushing.

DeSantis in a speech last night gloated about his new extreme abortion ban — even calling it “not harsh” despite the Florida women who may be forced to leave the state for care or carry medically risky pregnancies.

DeSantis, last night: “Of course, just a short few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to sign the heartbeat bill, which is the strongest pro-life bill Florida’s seen in its modern history. We got it done. And let’s not, and let’s be very clear on this, that when we are acting to protect an unborn child that has a detectable heartbeat, that is humane, that is not harsh.

DeSantis: “‘I signed the bill, I was proud to do it,’ he added. ‘[Trump] won’t answer whether he’d sign it or not.’”

DeSantis: “Well, our protections for life are protections for unborn child when there’s a fetal heartbeat. … And that was something that we were very proud to do.”

After officially launching his campaign yesterday, Tim Scott yet again promised to sign “the most conservative” national abortion ban possible.

Scott, yesterday: “I have a 100% pro-life voting record. I’m 100% pro-life conservative. As president of the United States I would sign the most conservative legislation, pro-life legislation that can get to my desk.

Scott, yesterday: “What legislation do we have today that gets through Congress? I’ve cosponsored a 20-week bill. I’ve signaled very clearly I’d sign a 15-week bill.

Scott on if he would sign Lindsey Graham’s proposed federal abortion ban: “Every day, I would sign that bill into law. I would sign the most conservative pro-life legislation you can bring to my desk.”Scott on a six-week abortion ban: “The people have decided that their elected leaders have the opportunity to do so, so I say absolutely … If I were president of the United States, I would literally sign the most conservative pro-life legislation that they can get through Congress.
