4 Times Yesterday That Trump Contradicted His Own Expert On Coronavirus Testing Shortages

Even as sports leagues are suspended and schools across the country close, and as the economy sinks as close to recession as its been in over a decade, Trump continues to lie to the public about coronavirus testing shortages, putting us further at risk.

Dr. Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, testified yesterday that the shortage of coronavirus testing “is a failing. Let’s admit it.”

Just one day after his disastrous speech, Trump continues to say the opposite of experts.

TRUMP: “Frankly, the testing has been going very smooth.”

Trump said there were “some cases” in which “we have too many” coronavirus tests.

TRUMP: “I watched Scott Gottlieb today, who’s — was with us and I respect him a lot. I like him and I respect him. And he was talking about how we have so many different — and in some cases, they’re in California where we have too many… And it was very interesting. You might ask Scott about it actually.”

For his own political benefit, Trump downplayed the problems people are facing with getting tests by falsely claiming it’s an isolated problem.

TRUMP: “It’s one case. I’ve also heard it goes very well.”

Trump pointed to the millions of tests now being produced, but those won’t help with the massive shortages we’re experiencing now.

TRUMP: “Now, with that being said, as you know, millions are being produced. This is a brand-new thing that just happened. But millions are being produced.”
