Actions Speak Louder Than Words: Republicans Keep Letting Ukraine Down

No matter how hard Republicans try, they can’t rewrite their record on Ukraine. While they may go on TV and claim to care about the war in Ukraine, their record of defending Donald Trump and voting against Ukraine aid last week tells a different story.

Last week, 31 Senate Republicans voted against providing critical aid to Ukraine despite Ukraine’s repeated pleas:

Washington Post: “More than two dozen Senate Republicans are demanding that President Biden do more to aid war-torn Ukraine and arm its forces against Russia’s brutal assault, after voting last week against $13.6 billion in military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine.”

Washington Post: “Romney and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) are separately leading an effort with 40 of their Senate GOP colleagues to urge Biden to work with Poland and other NATO allies to expedite the transfer of aircraft and air-defense systems to Ukraine. Of those 40 Republicans, 25 voted against the aid package.”

And let’s not forget how Republicans stood idly by and defended Donald Trump when he withheld military aid from Ukraine in an attempt to extort them for political gain:

New York Times: “Every Senate Republican but Mr. Romney voted to acquit Mr. Trump of abusing his power when he withheld military aid to Ukraine.”

Politico: “Republicans clamoring to accuse President Joe Biden of slow-walking support for Ukraine don’t see a shred of comparison with Donald Trump’s impeachment for withholding aid from the very same nation.”
