Angry Farmer Rips into Missouri Republican for Co-Signing Trump’s Agricultural Nightmare
August 29, 2025

In response to GOP Rep. Mark Alford’s own constituents turning against him during a town hall, DNC Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and his Republican bootlickers like Rep. Mark Alford are championing a disastrous economic agenda that uproots the lives of small farmers and plunges them into a financial crisis. Family farmers are forced to sacrifice their farms just to put a meal on the table and keep a roof over their heads — and for what? To line the pockets of Trump’s billionaire donors. While Trump plays chaotic trade war games at the expense of our farmers’ livelihoods, Alford and the rest of Trump’s lapdogs are too chicken to call him out and stand up for the people who sent them to Washington in the first place. Make no mistake: come Election Day, congressional Republicans will learn the hard way that playing stupid games wins stupid prizes.”
During a town hall event, Missouri GOP Rep. Mark Alford was confronted by an angry constituent who blamed the congressman for supporting Trump’s reckless economic policies that devastated Missouri farmers like him.

“‘What do you tell farmers who are losing their farms because there’s no market for them anymore? What do you say to them?’”

“‘I am pissed, and I’m pissed at you, because I have emailed you because it’s easier for me than to try to talk on the phone without profanity,’ said Fred Higginbotham, a longtime Polk County resident who said he was at risk of losing his family farm. ‘I would appreciate you taking your father’s U.S. Constitution book, read it, study it, make your own lines underneath it, and get Trump out of office. The man is a dictator.’
“Higginbotham went on to tell Alford that he may lose his family farm because of state and federal disdain for farmers and bias towards the wealthy.
“‘You wanna straighten out the budget? Start taxing corporations and the wealthy like we’ve been telling you. Do you think we’re idiots? Do you think we don’t pay taxes? Do you think that we don’t have to make budgets? … You know nothing about what a working-class citizen does. Come down here … and start trying to pay your medical insurance…. You need to take your head out of Trump’s ass and start doing your representation of us!’”
