As President Biden Issues Infrastructure ‘Roadmap,’ Governors Ready to Invest in Roads, Bridges, Highways

As President Joe Biden released a roadmap to help state, local, Tribal and territorial governments unlock the benefits from his Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, governors from both sides of the aisle are praising the funding headed to their states to improve roads, bridges, highways, and so much more. 

Here’s what voters are reading this week about President Biden and Democratic governors’ partnership in implementing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law:

In Michigan: 

WILX: Gov. Whitmer highlights infrastructure at National Governors Association winter meeting

The conference began Saturday in Washington DC with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Governors are seeking guidelines on spending new federal money on infrastructure like bridges, roads, and providing clean drinking water.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer was in attendance, saying how important it is to update the state’s infrastructure. She was joined in the discussion by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.

According to a 2021 analysis by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association, 36% of all bridges in the country are in need of major repair work or should be replaced.

In Wisconsin:

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, enacted last November, is expected to bring in hundreds of millions of dollars to the state.

“It’s going to change the way Wisconsin looks, and all across the country, fixing the infrastructure and building it out in a way that is sustainable and reliable,” said Evers.

In Colorado:

State and local officials in Colorado now have a guidebook for how to access the nearly $1 trillion that’s available through the new infrastructure law.

Governors prioritized transportation projects at their Winter Meeting of the National Governors Association with Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. Monday is the last day of the meeting.

Gov. Jared Polis said he’s working to make sure Colorado “gets the most bang for our buck and reduces traffic roads and bridges” as it invests the infrastructure money.
