Azar Lies: Health Care Workers Don’t Get Infected

Today, Secretary Alex Azar claimed that health care workers don’t get infected with coronavirus. The HHS secretary certainly knows that is not true — tens of thousands have been infected and hundreds have died — and is outright lying to the American people to help Trump push for schools to reopen.

Secretary Azar said health care workers don’t get infected with coronavirus because they take appropriate precautions.

AZAR: “We have health care workers, they don’t get infected because they take appropriate precautions.”

But tens of thousands of health care workers have been infected and hundreds have died.

Kaiser Health News: “CDC officials said data provided by the states most closely tracking the occupations of people with the virus suggests that health care workers account for about 11% of COVID-19 infections.”

Washington Post: “More than 77,800 have tested positive for the coronavirus, and more than 400 have died, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which acknowledges that’s a significant undercount. The nation’s largest nurses union, National Nurses United, puts the total much higher: 939 fatalities among health-care workers, based on reports from its chapters around the country, social media and obituaries.”

Many health care workers still don’t have the protective equipment they need as coronavirus cases spike across the country.

Associated Press: “Protective gear for medical workers begins to run low again”

Forbes: “The dramatic summer spike in coronavirus cases, especially in the South and West, has healthcare professionals fearing a return to the early days of the pandemic when availability of personal protective equipment, or PPE, lagged need and some desperate professionals resorted to wearing garbage bags.”
