BREAKING: DNC Stops Republicans From Kicking Nearly a Quarter Million NC Voters Off Voter Rolls

Key win for voting rights comes after a year-long battle led by the DNC to protect registered voters and their votes from Republican attacks

Multiple GOP efforts to overturn 2024 election results and disenfranchise voters in NC have now been successfully stopped by Democrats

In a major victory for North Carolina voters, the DNC has stopped the latest Republican attempt to restrict voting and undermine democracy in the state. Following tireless negotiations by the DNC, nearly every one of the approximately 225,000 voters targeted by Republicans will have their ballots counted in future elections, as a result of the settlement agreed upon. The settlement now proceeds to federal and state courts for final approval.

This victory comes after two GOP attempts to restrict voting in North Carolina. The RNC has repeatedly tried to disenfranchise North Carolina voters, particularly following the incredibly close victory for Justice Allison Riggs in the race for North Carolina Supreme Court. The GOP also unsuccessfully tried to kick nearly a quarter of a million eligible U.S. citizens off the state’s voter rolls and to throw out ballots cast by those voters in the 2024 general election. Their efforts to overturn the election were rejected by a Trump-appointed judge in federal court.

DNC Ken Martin released the following statement:

“The DNC has put Republicans on notice: If you attack voting rights, the DNC will be there to defend Americans at every turn. While the RNC has waged an all-out assault on voters in North Carolina, we have been fighting like hell to protect the sacred right to vote — and we will never back down. This latest victory is a win for Americans and yet another blow to the Republicans’ scheme to disenfranchise voters ahead of the midterm elections.”

DNC Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation Reyna Walters-Morgan released the following statement:

“This settlement is a victory for voting rights and democracy. Democrats led the legal fight to thwart Republicans’ attempts to rip away access to the ballot box. We will never stop fighting for the rights of voters here in North Carolina and across the country.”
