BREAKING: National Gas Prices Skyrocket to $4 Per Gallon
March 31, 2026

The national average price for a gallon of gasoline hit $4.00 today, the largest monthly jump ever recorded, which comes as Donald Trump and JD Vance’s unpopular war of choice with Iran rages on. Some experts warn that oil could hit $200 a barrel, which would push gas prices toward $7 a gallon. Diesel prices have also reached record highs, with one gallon costing $5.45. Americans have already spent nearly $8 billion more on gasoline over the past month.
Even before Trump began his war with Iran, everyday Americans were struggling to make ends meet. Now, as Trump’s war drives up global oil prices, higher prices will impact the entire economy — meaning working families will pay more for nearly everything — while Goldman Sachs estimates that Trump’s war will cost 10,000 jobs per month through the end of the year.
In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Donald Trump promised America lower costs and no new wars, but as it stands, gas is $4 a gallon because of a war he and JD Vance started. Trump and Vance’s deadly and costly war with Iran has already taken the lives of 13 service members and injured hundreds more, while causing prices to skyrocket for everyday Americans. These two sold millions of voters a false bill of goods. Their promises are as weak as their approval ratings. And now Trump and his band of sellout Republicans in Washington are considering stealing billions of taxpayer dollars that go to health care to fund their war. If they want to cut Medicare from seniors and raise health care costs for American families to pay for bombs, I have one thing to say: Let’s vote them the hell out.”
Every major poll confirms that Americans largely disapprove of Trump’s war of choice with Iran and nearly half of Americans say they are “extremely” or “very” concerned about being able to afford gas.
On the campaign trail, Vance said, “Our interest, I think very much, is in not going to war with Iran, right? It would be a huge distraction of resources. It would be massively expensive to our country.” The war has already claimed the lives of 13 American service members and injured more than 300. Meanwhile, Trump and Vance have already spent $25 billion on the war and the Pentagon is asking American taxpayers to pay another $200 billion to fund it — even if that means slashing health care funding for Americans.
