Trump has given some poor excuses for his campaign to pressure Ukraine into interfering in our election.  None are more laughable than Trump’s claim that he — of all people — was just really worried about corruption.

Ambassador Taylor just shared new evidence that debunks this already-unbelievable theory.  Trump’s own hand-picked EU ambassador said when it came to Ukraine, Trump was interested in one thing and one thing only: getting them to open investigations designed to help him politically.

Trump asked Sondland for an update on the status of “the investigations.”

TAYLOR: “In the presence of my staff at a restaurant, Ambassador Sondland called President Trump and told him of his meetings in Kyiv. The member of my staff could hear President Trump on the phone, asking Ambassador Sondland about ‘the investigations.’ Ambassador Sondland told President Trump that the Ukrainians were ready to move forward.

Sondland told a State Department staff member that Trump “cares more” about the investigations of his political opponent than about Ukraine.

TAYLOR: “Following the call with President Trump, the member of my staff asked Ambassador Sondland what President Trump thought about Ukraine. Ambassador Sondland responded that President Trump cares more about the investigations of Biden, which Giuliani was pressing for.”
