DeSantis Hits the Road As Floridians Struggle

As Ron DeSantis travels across the country to campaign for MAGA extremists and chase his political ambitions, new reports show how families are struggling to afford to live in Florida.

While DeSantis jets off to Nevada to boost his national profile, Floridians are facing skyrocketing housing prices, some of the highest health care costs in the country, and now potentially a huge tax increase for hundreds of thousands of Floridans.

CBS News: “Florida is the least affordable place to live in the U.S.”

CBS News: “Meanwhile, with both rents and home values growing at dizzying rates, it makes it that much harder for renters to even consider buying a home.”

NPR: “DeSantis wanted to punish Disney. Repealing its tax status may hurt taxpayers instead”

WUSF: “Study finds employees in Florida pay among the highest rates for health insurance”

The indifference to working families is entirely in character for DeSantis, who would rather prioritize culture wars, risk a tax increase on more than a million Floridians, and create an election police force to continue pushing Trump’s Big Lie than lower costs for his constituents.

Newsweek: “As a result, residents of Orange and Osceola counties, where Walt Disney World is located, could become responsible for the district’s liabilities of between $1 billion and $2 billion, which could lead to potential double-digit tax increases for county residents.”

Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph: “I don’t see how Orange County doesn’t raise property taxes by 20% to 25% … That’s what [the county] would probably have to do to cover this financial situation.”

CNN: “DeSantis signs bill creating new Florida election police force”

NBC News: “Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Monday to create a police force dedicated to pursuing voter fraud and other election crimes, embracing a top priority of Republicans after former President Donald Trump’s false claims that his re-election was stolen.”
