DNC Announces Historic Six-Figure Investment in Mississippi Ahead of Critical 2025 State Legislative Races
October 2, 2025
Today, the DNC announced a new, historic investment to support the Mississippi Democratic Party’s organizing efforts ahead of critical special elections on November 4, 2025. Earlier this year, federal judges ordered special elections in 14 state legislative districts after ruling the previous map, drawn by the Republican-controlled legislature, violated federal civil rights law by diluting Black voting power.
While Mississippi Republicans are clearly on defense after supporting Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill — under which 110,000 Mississippians will lose their health insurance and eight rural hospitals are put at risk of closing down — Democrats are on offense. Democratic candidates across the state are fighting to lower Mississippi families’ costs and save their health care.
Under DNC Chair Ken Martin, building long-term infrastructure in the South is a top priority. That’s why earlier this year, he announced a historic increase in monthly investments into our state parties, including $22,500 a month into traditionally red states through the DNC’s Red State Fund. For too long, the DNC has only been focused on the elections right in front of us. Under Chair Martin, the DNC is building for both the short and long term.
The DNC’s investment will support the Mississippi Democratic Party ahead of the critical 2025 state legislative races by:
- Supporting on-the-ground voter contact and organizing efforts.
- Freeing up funds for paid programming, like direct mail, and digital and TV ads.
- Building state party infrastructure ahead of the crucial 2025 elections and 2026 midterms.
DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:
“When you organize everywhere, you can win anywhere — that is my mantra, and that’s why we’re investing six figures into Mississippi in an off-year. At this DNC, we aren’t simply focused on battleground states or one single election cycle. We can chew gum while we walk, and that means building for both the short and long term by creating new opportunities for Democrats to win elections everywhere. As I say, there’s no such thing as a permanent red state. Voters across Mississippi know Republicans are weak and spineless after they cheered on Donald Trump’s agenda that kicks 110,000 Mississippians off their health insurance, pushes rural hospitals and nursing homes to the brink of closure, and raises families’ food and energy prices. With this major investment, the DNC is turbocharging Mississippi Democrats’ organizing efforts to win crucial legislative races this November and continue us on the road to a blue Mississippi.”
Mississippi Democratic Party Chair Cheikh Taylor issued the following statement:
“As Chair of the Mississippi Democratic Party, I am both humbled and emboldened by the opportunity before us to win valuable elections here in Mississippi. Our people deserve leaders who reflect their hopes, their struggles, and their dreams, and together we are building the movement that can deliver.
“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Chairman Ken Martin for his unwavering support of Mississippi. Your steadfast commitment ensures that rural states like ours are not forgotten, but instead have a strong seat at the table and the critical resources needed to give Mississippians the future we deserve.
“With unity, courage, and determination, we will rise to this moment and move Mississippi forward.”
Mississippi Democratic Party Executive Director Mikel Bolden issued the following statement:
“As Mississippi prepares for the upcoming elections, it is imperative that we get out into our communities, educate, and build a stronger foundation of support. I am grateful that Chairman Ken Martin is investing more resources in red states, because the truth is, we need more. These additional funds allow us to do just that: reach corners of Mississippi where people may not have access to critical information about the decisions being made that directly affect their lives.
“This investment gives us the opportunity to meet people face-to-face, offering a warm, authentic experience where community members can see who is in leadership and have a voice in shaping the change they want in the place they call home. Every corner of Mississippi is different, and each requires a unique approach. We are committed to meeting that challenge, restoring hope, rebuilding trust, and strengthening faith in democracy.
“As Chairman Taylor reminds us: with unity, courage, and determination, we will rise to this moment and move Mississippi forward.”
