WASHINGTON – DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile issued the following statement:

“For five years, Donald Trump peddled the racist and divisive conspiracy theory that President Obama was not born in the United States. Today, Trump refused to admit that he was wrong. And he had the audacity to spout a new lie about the origin of the birther movement that he helped to build. 

“Donald Trump cannot walk away from this racist lie with a shrug and a wink. He must apologize to President Obama, his family, and the American people for this hateful and divisive lie. This kind of blatant dishonesty has defined the Trump campaign and has no place in our politics or the White House. Donald Trump is unfit for the presidency.”
