DNC Celebrates CBC Annual Legislative Conference

Last week, Black leaders from across the nation convened in Washington D.C. for the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference. The Democratic National Committee proudly served as a sponsor and held a series of events to engage and mobilize Black voters ahead of the midterms at one of the nation’s leading policy conferences.

On Wednesday, in partnership with the DCCC, DGA, and CBCPAC, DNC Senior Advisor Antjuan Seawright organized and led a “Chop It Up” event for over 90 Black men to hear from party leaders and discuss the work required and needed to turn out Black men’s votes for Democrats this November. Featured speakers included DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, Rep. Steven Horsford, Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Chris Jones, and former mayor of Columbia, South Carolina, Steven Benjamin.

On Thursday, we hosted our DNC Black Caucus reception under the leadership of the DNC Black Caucus Chair Virgie M. Rollins and in partnership with the CBCPAC and DCCC. This year’s reception featured guests included DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, the Honorable Marcia Fudge, DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackelford, DNC LGBTQ+ Chair Earl Fowlkes, Rep. Steven Horsford, DCCC Chair Sean Patrick Maloney, and Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson.

Additionally, the DNC hosted a booth in the CBC-ALC Exhibit Hall that was staffed throughout the week by Black directors and staffers throughout the building. DNC staff successfully registered 200 individuals to sign up for our Black programming, and many attendees voiced excitement to see the DNC participating with hopes this is a continued effort.
