DNC Celebrates International Women’s Day

DNC Women’s Caucus Chair Lottie Shackleford released the following statement to mark International Women’s Day:

“Today, on International Women’s Day, the DNC is proud to celebrate the countless contributions of the women across the globe who have paved the way for so many of us. From Shirley Chisholm’s brave run for Congress in 1968 to Dolores Huerta’s lifetime of organizing and activism to Danica Roem’s trailblazing race for the Virginia House of Delegates just last year, women have been leading the way for one another for generations. Without the torchlights of our sisters who came before us, we would never have found ourselves where we are today, but there is still so much work left to be done.

“Despite the progress we’ve made thanks to generations of strong female leaders, women are still watching the Trump administration attack their rights day in and day out. Women are the core of the Democratic Party, and we will never stop fighting against the Republican Party’s assaults on our rights. Today, and every day, we are proud to be the party that champions women, and we will march to eternity for the equality they deserve.”
