Democrats will never stop fighting for the right to vote

For nearly six months, in baseless suit after baseless suit, disgraced candidate Jefferson Griffin attacked North Carolina voters after losing the race to become a justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court and refusing to concede. Today, he finally acknowledged what we all knew and what two recounts confirmed: Allison Riggs is the rightful winner of this Supreme Court race. 

The DNC fought hand in hand with the Riggs campaign and the North Carolina Democratic Party, providing legal, communications, and organizational support to ensure that every North Carolinian had their ballot counted. 

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:

“This is a righteous victory for democracy and a clear defeat of political gamesmanship. For 200 days, Republicans in North Carolina sought to overturn the will of the people, hijack a state Supreme Court seat, and systematically undermine basic faith in our elections. Jefferson Griffin’s relentless assault on reality has come to an end and Justice Allison Riggs will finally take her rightful place on the North Carolina Supreme Court. 

“For six months, Republicans waged an unprecedented attack on voters – including members of the military serving our country overseas – but the Riggs campaign and North Carolina Democrats never wavered. Griffin’s disgraceful effort was a waste of taxpayer dollars and a threat to our democratic values. Make no mistake: This was a fundamental fight of right versus wrong. 

“May this saga be a lesson to Republicans everywhere: If you try to undermine the will of the voters, you will lose. Congratulations to North Carolina’s new Supreme Court justice, Allison Riggs, and the North Carolina Democratic Party.

“The will of the people still matters.”
