DNC Chair on Latest News in Trump-Backed Lawsuit to Overturn the ACA
January 21, 2020
DNC Chair Tom Perez released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court denied a request to expedite a challenge to the Affordable Care Act, likely pushing a decision until after the election, and Trump’s own HHS Secretary admitted they have no replacement plan:
“Today, the Supreme Court gave Trump and Republicans in Congress the gift they so desperately wanted: the chance to not have to answer to voters before November’s election about their lawsuit that threatens to destroy the ACA, end protections for patients with preexisting conditions, and strip millions of their health care. As if on cue, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar then admitted the administration believes there’s no need to have a plan to replace the ACA.
“The calculating deception and cruelty on display here is sickening. But the American people won’t be fooled. Their health care is still under attack thanks to Trump and Republicans, and voters are going to make them pay the price at the ballot box. Make no mistake: health care is on the ballot in 2020 more clearly than ever – and the American people know that when it comes to protecting their health care, the Democratic Party is the only party that has their back.”
