DNC Chair Perez, Congresswoman Dingell and Ned Price on Trump’s Failed Coronavirus Response
April 23, 2020
On a press call today, Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, and National Security Action Director of Policy and Communications Ned Price highlighted Trump’s failed and delayed response to the coronavirus.
This crisis has been severely worsened because of Trump. He failed to hold China accountable, covered up the severity of the threat, and failed to prepare for the public health crisis that ensued. His chaotic federal response delayed critical mitigation efforts for months and prioritized relief for corporations over people.
“Now more than ever, we need a change in leadership to get our country on track. When we are in crisis, we need leadership that is trustworthy, that unifies us, that is compassionate, that takes responsibility, and is singularly focused on the critical tasks at hand,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “This pandemic has laid bare the utter incompetence, inexperience, and ineffectiveness of President Trump. The failure to prepare for this crisis and to listen to health experts has cost people their jobs, their savings, and even their lives.”
“This crisis is worse because of the president and his failed response,” said Congresswoman Debbie Dingell. “He didn’t hold China responsible. He covered up the extent of the threat and then he failed to prepare for the public health crisis that has now ensued. His chaotic federal response delayed mitigation efforts for weeks. His actions have caused confusion and misinformation to spread, and it’s made it really hard for our governors and local leaders who are trying to do everything they can.”
“Trump has been anything but unpredictable,” said National Security Action’s Ned Price. “In fact, his pattern of behavior with his Chinese counterpart is propelled by a dangerous predictability that has consistently placed Trump’s interests over the national interest, even when the stakes couldn’t be higher.”
